I was chatting with my financial advisor a couple of weeks ago. She runs a small business with a team of six staff. We got chatting about some issues she was having with a difficult staff member and about ways she could manage those challenges.

I asked her – What kind of leader do you want to be known as? And she said ‘I don’t really think I am a leader at all!’
And my reply (in my most gentle voice cause she is a gentle soul) ‘Perhaps that is the core of the real problem here?’

Leadership is serious business.
Leadership is about accepting responsibility. And to be quite frank with you – people now days avoid responsibility like the plague. This I know for a fact – the more personal responsibility we take, the more success we will have.
The more personal responsibility we take, the more success we will have.
So I opened the conversation with my financial advisor about ‘what would need to happen for her to see herself as a leader, for her to feel like a leader’
And it’s a great question!

For those of you that don’t see yourself as a leader or don’t feel like a leader but would like to …
What would need to happen for you to see yourself as a leader?
What evidence would you be searching for that makes you feel like a leader?
What would you be hearing in the world around you?

Most human beings are a mystery to themselves … Its true, most human beings are a mystery to themselves …
We rarely understand what drives our behaviour. We rarely understand our fears. We rarely understand the things that hold us back!

Intentional leadership begins with knowing you … Exploring what drives your own behaviour … Searching to understand your fears … Digging deep to overcome the things that hold you back

Who are you? What is your purpose? What do you value? What do you belief about yourself? How would you define your character? What inspires you? What motivates you? How do handle adversity?
The answers to these questions form the Foundations of leadership.

People love certainty. Certainty is a very very attractive quality. Not confidence which can be construed as cocky or arrogant, but certainty.

I know who I am, and I know where we are going, and I know together we will get there. There are no doubts or reservations.

Who are you? What is your purpose? What do you value? What do you belief about yourself? How would you define your character? What inspires you? What motivates you? How do handle adversity?
The answers to these questions are the foundation of leadership. My dad was a builder & he taught me to never skimp on your foundations.

Our foundations provide security … Our foundations are what hold us in place in tough times … Our foundations allow us to scale and build.

Who are you?
What is your purpose?
What do you value?
